Afternoon thundershowers to enhance & continue from tonight

The enhancement of afternoon thundershowers to some extent over the island is expected to continue further from tonight, (particularly during 20th and 21st October), according to the Department of Meteorology.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at most places on the island particularly after 2.00 p.m.

Showers or thundershowers will occur in several places in the coastal areas of Northern, Eastern and North-western province in the morning too.

Heavy falls about 100 mm can be expected at some places, particularly in Central, Uva, Sabaragamuwa and North-central provinces and in Galle, Matara districts.

There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.

Sea areas:

Showers or thundershowers will occur at the Eastern and western sea areas of the island, the Department of Meteorology stated.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the other sea areas around the island in the evening or night.

Winds will be South-westerly in the direction in the sea areas extending from Mannar to Hambanthota via Colombo and Galle.

Winds will be variable in direction in the other sea areas around the island. Wind speed will be 10-20 kmph in the sea areas around the island.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
