Five Indian fishermen arrested in Sri Lankan waters

Sri Lanka Navy apprehended five Indian fishermen who were poaching in Sri Lankan territorial waters, along with their trawler, yesterday (22 October).

The crew of SLNS “Edithara II” attached to the Northern Naval Command, had apprehended the Indian fishermen in the seas 3.5 nautical miles off the Delft island.

Accordingly, the apprehended fishermen and the trawler were brought to SLNS Uthtara, the SLN said.

After a basic medical check-up they were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries-Jaffna for legal proceedings.
