Champika continues to work at ministry

UNP MP Patali Champika Ranawaka is currently at the Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development, despite the appointing of a new Cabinet.

Photographs and videos uploaded on the official social media accounts of the former minister shows him carrying out duties after arriving at the ministry today (2).

The previous Cabinet of Ministers, in which Ranawaka had served as the Minister of Megapolis and Western Development, was dissolved following the appointing of a new Prime Minister by President Maithripala Sirisena.

Several new ministers were sworn in during the course of the past couple of days since Mahinda Rajapaksa was appointed PM, however so far a new Minister of Megapolis and Western Development is yet to be appointed.

Speaking at the ministry’s office premises, Ranawaka said that based on a request from party leaders the Speaker had called an unofficial sitting which was attended by the MPs representing 5 out of the 6 political parties represented in the parliament.

He said that during the meeting several proposals approved such as the motion stating that the proroguing of the Parliament and the appointing of a Prime Minister and the PM’s staff on October 26 was unlawful.

Ranawaka added that a total of 118 parliamentarians expressed their approval for the proposal. This shows that Mahinda Rajapaksa does not command the majority in the Parliament.
