Govt. to hold PC elections under old system?

Minister of Provincial Councils, Local Government and Sports Faiszer Musthapha has given instructions to relevant officials to prepare the Cabinet Memorandum concerning the conducting of provincial council elections under the old electoral system.

The Delimitation Committee appointed to prepare a Report on Delimitation of Electorates in Provincial Councils was slated to submit its report on October 29.

However, as the report has not been submitted yet, the government has decided to hold the elections under the old electoral system within a two-month period.

The Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Government stated that it has been unable to carry out delimitation of electoral districts, since the report on Delimitation of Electorates was not submitted before it was due.

Accordingly, necessary measures will be taken to obtain the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers to hold the provincial council elections under the old electoral system, the Ministry stated further.
