Police find suspicious van involved in Sainthamaruthu blast

The van bearing No 250-5680, which is believed to have transported explosives and suspects to Sainthamaruthu, has been taken into the custody of the Kekirawa Police.

The vehicle in question was seized at Ihala Puliyankulama in Maradankadawala today (30).

The vehicle owner, who was arrested by the police, revealed that the van was taken to Kalmunai area as per a request made by a clergyman, according to Ada Derana correspondent.

The arrestee was identified as Abu Salley Nazar residing in Maradankadawala.

Kekirawa Police said the suspect and the van are to be handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).


Meanwhile, the suspicious lorry wanted in connection with the Easter Sunday attacks was discovered at Sungavila in Polonnaruwa.

Police said that 03 suspects have been arrested along with the vehicle which bears the number plate ‘EP – PX 2399’.

Ada Derana reporter said the vehicle in question was found parked in the garden of a residence in the area and that investigations are being carried with the use of police dogs.
