Report of committee probing terror attacks will be made public - President

President Maithripala Sirisena says the report of the special committee appointed to probe the terror attacks on Easter Sunday will be made public.

President Sirisena made these remarks during a meeting held with the senior security officers, including the newly appointed Secretary of Defence General Shantha Kottegoda at the Ministry of Defence, today (30).

On April 21st, in the wake of the attacks, the President appointed a special committee headed by a Supreme Court judge to conduct an inquiry into the explosions and their background.

The Committee is slated to study other reasons that pave the way for these incidents as well and it will submit its report within two weeks to the President.

Future security measures will be decided after presenting the committee’s report to the Parliament, President Sirisena has said.

The progress was reviewed on the missions that are being carried off to take 
the terrorists into custody.

The President emphasized that this barbaric terrorism should be eradicated completely and the national security should be ensured without delay.

The issues discussed included ensuring the security at schools by carrying out a proper security program as well as conducting the daily duties of the government offices in a normal manner. The President stressed that normal activities in the country should not face setbacks.

He commended the security forces for the massive effort rendered to the investigations on the terror attacks.

The new Secretary of Defence, General Kottegoda assured President Sirisena that he would give his maximum effort to eradicate terrorism and to establish a stable country with ensured national security.

Defence State Minister Ruwan Wijewardana, Secretary to the President Udaya R. Senevirathne, Advisory to the Defence Ministry former IPG N.K. Ilangakoon and senior officials of the Defence Ministry has also joined this meeting.
