Father-in-law of Rifkan, identified as a close accomplice of Zahran Hashim –ringleader behind the attacks – told Ada Derana that they had no idea that Rifkan was involved with the Islamic State or the National Thowheed Jamaath (NTJ).

He stated that Rifakan only attended the mosque once a year and they noticed no difference in his behavior.

They are not aware of a place Rifkan would be and he had been with the hope of migrating, said the father-in-law.

Rifkan had left home saying that he was going to Canada, and no one has received even a phone call from since then, the father-in-law further said.
