Charges pile up against Kadi courts…

Several Muslim women have revealed to the media in recent days that Muslim women are being treated unfairly by Kadi courts which handle the law related to Muslim marriages.

Two Muslim women who arrived at Derana head office yesterday (29) and revealed that women are being treated in an insulting manner at court proceedings.

The two women revealed the injustice done upon them and claimed that Kadi courts take the man’s side in court proceedings for money.

Previously, a Muslim woman from Atalugama, Bandaragama told the media the injustice done upon her by the Kadi Court and the village mosque.

Subsequently, two Muslim women from Maligawatta and Uva Paranagama-Bowela areas charged that the Kadi courts acted unfairly towards them in their divorce cases.

Later, a Muslim father from Kandy stated that the Kadi court acted to marry off his 15-year-old daughter to the same person who sexually assaulted her.

Meanwhile, Muslim parliamentarians have discussed and handed over a proposal regarding the amendments that need to be made to reform the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Act.
