110 state institutions to be presented awards by the President

According to the report of the Committee on Public Accounts (CoPA), government organizations which have achieved a high performance in the year 2018 will be presented with awards at the Parliamentary Complex tomorrow (28) under the patronage of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. 

 

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and Speaker of Parliament Karu Jayasuriya are also expected to grace the ceremony. 

 

The report of the Committee on Public Accounts for the fiscal year 2018 was tabled in Parliament on 18.02.2020 by State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna.

 

In 2018, 844 institutions of State, Provincial Councils and Local Government were recognized out of which, 110 selected institutions were finalized to be awarded. 

 

Accordingly, awards will be presented under the categories of main Expenditure Units of Government, Government Ministries, Government Departments, District Secretariats, Provincial Council Funds, Provincial Ministries / Departments / Special Expenditure Units, Provincial Authorities, Municipal Councils, Urban Councils and Provincial Councils.

 

Under the concept of the Committee on Public Accounts of the 8th Parliament, a Computer Networking System to Evaluate the State, Provincial Councils and Local Government commenced in the year of 2016 based on the fiscal year of 2015 with a mission of streamlining financial and performance aspects of Government Institutions.

 

According to the computer networking system in evaluating the State, Provincial Councils and Local Government institutions functioning under the direction of the Committee on Public Accounts, a positive growth can be observed. Accordingly, the overall result of complying with Financial Regulation and Performance Rules has been marked at 64% in the fiscal year of 2015 and 78% in 2018.

 

The Committee on Public Accounts intends to continue the implementation of this program to the best of its ability to perform the functions of the State, Provincial Councils and Local Authorities.
