The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL), commercial banks, insurance services, and the Treasury have been declared essential services, on the directives of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

The Essential Services category includes health, security, police, goods distribution, customs, electricity, water, and fuel supply services.

Accordingly, the CBSL is notified to ensure that the CBSL, all banks, insurance companies, and their branches remain open with the minimum number of employees even during the curfew.

Secretary to the President Dr. P. B. Jayasundara issued a written directive to the CBSL Governor Prof. W. D. Lakshman in this regard.

However, the public is requested to visit these institutions only over urgent matters and to follow health guidelines set by authorities.

The President, the Secretary to the President, the main staff and the Presidential Secretariat are fully functional every day to deliver their services, Dr. Jayasundara further said in his letter.
