Total coronavirus cases in Sri Lanka rise to 143

Sri Lanka yesterday recorded the highest daily surge in COVID-19 cases as a total of 21 patients tested positive for the virus during the course of the day.

As of 7.30 pm, 20 coronavirus patients were found in the country, however, another patient had tested positive by 11.20 pm.

Accordingly, the total count of coronavirus cases in Sri Lanka has now soared to 143.

10 of the patients who were found last night are said to be from Puttalam area. This group reportedly includes several individuals who had attended a sermon in Malaysia recently and the ones they had been in contact with.

In the meantime, 124 coronavirus-infected persons are being treated at the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) and some other hospitals across the country.

According to the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry, 173 continue to be under observation at selected hospitals.

Sri Lanka has thus far reported 2 coronavirus fatalities.
