Sri Lanka reports third COVID-19 death

Another patient who tested positive for the Coronavirus has died, marking the third death reported in Sri Lanka due to COVID-19, according to hospital sources.

 

The patient, a 73-year-old from Maradana, had tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday (01) while receiving treatment at Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital.

 

However, later in the evening, he had succumbed to the virus on admission to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (IDH) in Angoda, Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe said.

 

The deceased had been suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure and chronic kidney disease.

 

Dr. Jasinghe added that the patient was in a critical condition at the time of hospitalization.

 

This brings the number of fatalities in Sri Lanka from the COVID-19 outbreak to 3.

 

A total of 146 confirmed cases of Coronavirus have been reported in the country as of 5.00 p.m. on Wednesday. 

 

Twenty-one patients have completely reverenced and discharged from hospital while 123 suspected patients are currently under observation at selected hospitals across the country.
