Themiya Abeywickrama appointed DG of Civil Aviation Authority

Themiya Abeywickrama has been appointed as the new Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority.

Capt. Abeywickrama had previously served as Chief Pilot - Training and Standards of Mihin Lanka.

He will take over from Mr H.M.C. Nimalsiri, who was the Director General of Civil Aviation and Chief Executive Officer of the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka since its inception in 2002.

Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka stated that the Cabinet of Ministers has appointed Capt. Themiya Abeyawickrama to the post of DGCA & CEO of the CAASL with immediate effect.

A past pupil of Richmond College in Galle, Captain Abeywickrama has an unblemished record as a Pilot with more than 15000 hours in airline flying and training as well as three decades experience in Aviation industry as a Pilot and in various managerial positions in different countries.

He has served as CAASL Designated Check Pilot and Commander Airbus of Sri Lankan Airlines from 1990 – 2008, Commander Airbus of Kingfisher Airlines from 2008 – 2011, Chief Pilot (Training and Standards) of Mihin Lanka from 2011 – 2015, General Manager and Deputy Director Operations at Himalaya Airlines from 2015 – 2016, Director Operations and Commander Airbus at Wataniya Airways (2016 – 2018) and as Commander Airbus Fleet of Jazeera Airways from 2018 – present.
