8th COVID-19 death reported in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Health confirmed the country’s eighth COVID-19 death, a short while ago.

Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe stated that a 72-year-old woman, a Coronavirus infected patient, has died while receiving treatment at the Homagama Hospital today (04).

The deceased was a resident of Polpithigama in Kurunegala. She had been suffering from kidney ailments prior to death, said the ministry.

She is the first female to die from COVID-19 in Sri Lanka. According to reports, her remains were cremated at the Kotikawatta cemetery, a short while ago.

Meanwhile three new Coronavirus cases had been confirmed so far today. Accordingly, the total number of COVID-19 patients reported in the country is 719 by now.

520 active cases are under medical care at hospitals across the island.

Ten patients have been discharged form hospitals today after recovering completely bringing the total recoveries to 194.

The number of PCR tests performed yesterday (03) is 1,636.
