Sri Lanka Navy says that so far 04 navy personnel who were treated for COVID-19 have fully recovered and have been discharged from hospital.

Another two naval persons who were confirmed positive for coronavirus at Anuradhapura and Agalawatta hospitals on April 26 and admitted for treatment to IDH hospital, were discharged from the hospital on Tuesday (May 05) following their full recovery from COVID-19, the navy said.

These two naval persons who were on leave, were tested positive to coronavirus by PCR test at Anuradhapura and Agalawatta hospitals, on April 26 and they were directed to IDH hospital for treatment.

Since these patients were confirmed negative to coronavirus by PCR tests while under treatment, they were discharged from the hospital on Tuesday (May 05).

Further, the family members of these two naval persons who were on leave, have been directed to Naval quarantine centers and these two who were discharged from the IDH hospital are to be kept under quarantine for another 14 days as well following the healthcare instructions.

Including these two persons, four naval persons who were affected with coronavirus, have been discharged from the hospital after complete recovery so far, the navy said.

Of the 547 active coronavirus cases in Sri Lanka, over 300 of them are Navy personnel attached to the Welisara Camp.

The Army Commander had confirmed that out of the 20 new cases of COVID-19 identified yesterday, 15 are members of the Sri Lanka Navy.

Meanwhile the Sri Lanka Navy today rejected claims that it has withdrawn from the country’s ongoing efforts to control the pandemic.

Issuing a press release, it said that false information stating that Sri Lanka Navy has withdrawn from their campaign conducted to control the spread of COVID-19, have appeared in newspapers, social media and certain websites.

“It is emphasized that no operation of the Sri Lanka Navy carried out in assistance of the national mechanism against COVID-19 has terminated and the navy is contributing its full weight in the prevention activities of COVID-19.”

Further it is informed that legal action against the individuals and institutions who publish fake information about Sri Lanka Navy will be executed in due course under press regulations in Sri Lanka, the release said.
