No more isolated areas as Bandaranayake Mawatha and Suduwella re-open

The isolation of Bandaranayake Mawatha in Colombo 12 and Suduwella in Ja-Ela have been lifted, according to the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva.

Accordingly there are currently no isolated areas due to Covid-19 in Sri Lanka, he said.

Bandaranayake Mawatha in Colombo 12 and Suduwella in Ja-Ela were declared as isolated areas last month after the discovery of two major clusters of Covid-19 cases fro those areas.

The village of Suduwella was declared as an isolated area on April 05 after a 25-year-old youth from there had tested positive for the virus.

Bandaranayake Mawatha, where a large number of Covid-19 cases were identified, will also re-open from today. The area was isolated by security forces last month after the identifying of several cases.

Accordingly, 1,010 persons from 242 families from Bandaranayake Mawatha had been directed to the quarantine process.

The Navy on April 09 conducted an intelligence operation to apprehend 28 persons who were avoiding quarantine orders remaining in the village of Suduwella, Ja-Ela.

Subsequently, this group of persons were sent to the SLN quarantine centre at Oluvil for proper quarantine process. Many of them had later tested positive for the virus.
