Iraj issues letter of demand to Harin over defamation

Popular artist and music producer Iraj Weeraratne, through Attorney at Law Prabuddhika Tissera, has issued a letter of demand to former parliamentarian Harin Fernando over a case of defamation of character.

The letter refers to a media briefing held by former MP Fernando on May 21, 2020, where he had made several claims that allegedly defamed Weeraratne.

Further, the letter alleges that Fernando had published and distributed false and defamatory content through Facebook and YouTube interviews aimed at damaging the character and reputation of Weeraratne.

Weeraratne, while denying all allegations levied against him, demands that Fernando immediately cease and desist his ‘unlawful defamation’ of Weeraratne and provide a written assurance within 14 days that he will cease and desist from further defamation the character and reputation of  Weeraratne, along with a firm apology for the damage caused, read the letter.

However, Weeraratne is entitled to seek monetary damages and equitable relief for the defamation caused by Fernando in case he [Fernando] does not comply with this cease and desist demand.
