The Department of Posts has decided to discontinue the process of delivering clinical medicine from government hospitals and Government pharmacies to respective persons, with effect from tomorrow (15).

In a statement issued today (14), Post Master General Ranjith Ariyaratne said necessary actions will be taken to develop a proper mechanism for this as the health sector and consumers have made requests for the continuation of this process.

The Postal Department took over the task of handing over clinical medicines issued by the government hospitals and medicine ordered from government pharmacies to relevant persons, at the request of Presidential Task Force on Essential Services in the epidemic of COVID-19.

“I would like to thank the entire staff of the Postal Department who dedicated to making this task efficient and reliable,” the Post Master General said in his statement.

The government has restored normalcy and the Postal Department is resuming its normal duties, Mr. Ariyaratne added.

Accordingly, the normal duties of the Department and forthcoming election duties should be given priority and it is difficult for the staff to carry on the process of distributing medicines to the relevant persons, he pointed out.
