Most Reverend Father Ernest Porutota passes away

UPDATE (2.20 pm): Mortal remains of Most Reverend Father Ernest Porutota will lie in state at the Sacred Heart Chapel from 3 pm today (16) until  6.30 pm June 17. 

Thereafter, they will be transferred to St. Philip Neri’s Church, Katukurunda, Kalutara. 

Requiem Mass will be held on 18th June at 2.30 pm followed by burial at St. Philip Neri’s Church Cemetery.


 

Most Reverend Father Ernest Porutota has been called to eternal rest on this morning (16) at the age of 88 years.

He had been receiving treatment in a private hospital at the time of his demise.

Details of funeral arrangements are yet to be informed.

Born in 1931, Porutotage Raymond Ernest Alexander Fernando – Ernest Porutota – was ordained in February 1957 at the St. Lucia’s Cathedral in Kotahena.

While being an integral part of the Young Christian Workers Movement, Father Porutota was also the founding Director of OCIC, the Sri Lankan chapter of the international film award SIGNIS Awards.

Reverend Father Porutota authored several books such as ‘Kithunu Peraliya’ and ‘Gihiya’ as well.
