Colombo High Court has ordered to issue notice on former Parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra to appear before the court on July 10 with regard to the case on the alleged abduction of a youth from Dematagoda area back in 2015.

When the case was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Champa Janaki Rajaratne today (17), Premachandra and her defence lawyers had failed to make an appearance for the hearing.

Accordingly, the High Court Judge has ordered to issue and serve the notice to Premachandra within the course of the day.

In December 2015, a 35-year-old man was abducted in the Baseline Road area in Dematagoda and assaulted by a group of individuals who had arrived in a Land Rover Defender which was allegedly owned by Premachandra.

The victim who was identified as a resident of Kolonnawa was abducted by the group of persons on December 21.

Nine including Premachandra were charged over the abduction. However, the suspects excluding the former parliamentarian later admitted before the Colombo High Court to abducting the youth and were sentenced to 2 years rigorous imprisonment suspended for 12 years by the Colombo High Court.
