Eight suspects linked to organised crime arrested within 24 hours

Eight suspects involved in organized crimes have been arrested by police within the last 24 hours, Director of Legal Division of Sri Lanka Police, SSP Ruwan Gunasekara said. 

Speaking to reporters during a press briefing in Colombo today (22), he said that the suspects were arrested with weapons and drugs during operations carried out at three separate locations.

He said that Police Special Task Force (STF) personnel had arrested two suspects, aged 29 and 26, with weapons in Mathugama yesterday.

He said in a separate operation in Hanwella last night the STF arrested three suspects connected to an underworld criminal gang.

The three suspects include underworld figure Thanippuli Arachchige Dasun Buddhika Jayathilaka alias ‘Akku’, who is a close associate imprisoned underworld leader Indunil Kumara alias ‘Indra’.

They were nabbed with a fake pistol, three swords, a dagger and 325 grams of Kerala cannabis.

Another suspect had been arrested in Ratmalana with 7 grams of heroin.

Meanwhile two more suspects had been nabbed in Rambukkana with heroin. The suspects, a 27-year-old male and 50-year-old woman, were arrested along with 1 kg and 527 g of heroin.
