The Court of Appeal has rejected the writ petition filed by ‘Ape Jana Bala’ party – from which Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero is contesting the General Election 2020 – over the rejection of their nominations papers.

The decision was taken by the Court of Appeal Judge bench consisting of Appeal Court Chairman Justice A. H. M. D. Nawaz, and Justice Sobhitha Rajakaruna, today (22).

The Judge bench, in its ruling, stated that it refuses to issue notices to hear the relevant petitions.

The nomination papers submitted by the ‘Ape Jana Bala’ party for Kurunegala, Colombo, Kalutara, and Monaragala districts had been rejected by District Returning Officers as the affidavits attached to the papers had not been certified by a Justice of Peace (JP).

The petitions seeking a writ order were filed against the rejection of the nomination papers by several candidates of the party including Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero and Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thero.
