Army Chief says so far no decision to impose curfew in other areas

Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva says that he does not foresee that in the coming days there will be any changes to the curfew which has currently been imposed in several areas in the wake of the latest Covid-19 cluster in Minuwangoda.

“In regards to the areas already with curfew imposed, I don’t foresee there will be a change. In fact, all what can happen is lifting the curfew. That I don’t see that it will happen during next 2-3 days. I don’t think it will happen,” he said speaking to @HydePark on Ada Derana 24.

He also said that as of now, there is “no such decision” to enforce curfew anywhere other than the areas which are currently under quarantine curfew.

“As of now, I don’t foresee. But we never know with the situation. Every day we are analyzing the present situation,” he said, adding that the President is holding meetings on the pandemic situation on a daily basis.

“But if there is a requirement, of course there will be a decision taken according to the situation in particular areas.”

“The right decision will be taken at the right time,” he assured.

The Army Commander also added that the overconfidence of the people in the recent months, disregarding health protocols, may have led to the rise of the virus in the country once more.
