An attendant of the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children in Colombo has tested positive for Covid-19.

Dr. Ruwan Wijayamuni, the Chief Medical Officer of Health of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) said a PCR test carried out on Friday (09) had confirmed that the hospital worker in question was infected with the virus.

A 10-month-old under treatment at the Ridgeway Hospital also tested positive for the virus recently.

Reports revealed that the attendant had served the ward where the virus-infected infant was being treated.

The infant from Minuwangoda had been admitted to the Lady Ridgeway Hospital on Wednesday (07).

The medical staff of the institution, taking note of the symptoms of the infant, had kept her apart from other patients and referred her to a PCR test, which confirmed that she has contracted the virus.

The infant was subsequently transferred to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) in Angoda.
