Distributing Rs 5,000 allowance to curfew areas begins

The distribution of the Rs 5,000 allowance granted for 72,345 families in the quarantine curfew areas in the Gampaha District will be concluded this week, stated the Gampaha District Secretariat.

 

As per the Gampaha District Secretary Sunil Jayalath, the distribution of the allowance has commenced this morning (20).

 

Accordingly, an allowance of Rs 5,000 will be paid for a week from today at selected locations in the Minuwangoda, Divulapitiya, Attanagalla, and Mirigama Divisional Secretariats under the Minuwangoda, Divulapitiya, and Veyangoda Police Divisions.

 

The government has allocated Rs. 40 million for the first phase of this program.

 

The Gampaha District Secretary said that necessary steps have been taken to carry out the distribution of the relief adhering to all quarantine rules.

 

Meanwhile, provisions to distribute the Rs 5,000 allowance in 16 other police divisions in the Gampaha District have been requested from the government, District Secretary Jayalath added.

 

He further said that, following the conclusion of Phase I, it is also planned to provide an allowance of Rs 5,000 to those 16 areas as a second phase.
