Met. Dept. forecasts showers in parts of the island

Showers will occur at several places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts, the Department of Meteorology says.

Fairly strong gusty winds about 40kmph can be expected in North-central and North-western provinces and in Trincomalee, Mannar and Hambantota districts and in the western slopes of the central hills.


Sea areas:

A few showers may occur in the sea areas extending from Negombo to Matara via Colombo and Galle.

Winds will be Westerly to South-westerly in the sea areas around the island and the wind speed will be (30-40) kmph.

Wind speed can increase up to (50-60) kmph in the sea areas extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Mannar. 

The sea areas extending from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota can be rough at times. Other sea areas around the island will be moderately rough.
