Sharp rise in Covid-19 numbers with 309 Covid-19 cases confirmed yesterday

Sri Lanka confirmed 309 more positive cases of Covid-19 yesterday, recording its second-highest daily total.

All the cases have been linked to the Minuwangoda cluster; 22 staff members of factories in Katunayake free trade zone, 188 from the Peliyagoda fish market, 02 from quarantine centres and 97 close contacts.

The cluster has registered a total of 2,817 positive cases thus far.

The country saw the highest daily tally on the 6th of October, with 739 infections from the Minuwangoda cluster.

Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said out of the novel coronavirus patients identified yesterday, 31 were reported from Colombo, while Gampaha registered 40 cases.

Kuliyapitiya area meanwhile reported 14 cases. In addition, Galle and Anuradhapura have reported 11 cases in total.

With the new development, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 in Sri Lanka now stands at 6,287. The active cases under medical care meanwhile reached 2,712.
