President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has instructed officials to strictly monitor the quarantine process implemented to control the spread of Covid-19, after the curfew is lifted.

The families identified as close contacts of coronavirus infected patients have been self-quarantined within their own homes while this figure is now close to 84,000 persons in 31,457 homes, according to the President’s Media Division.

Within the Western Province alone, a total of 40,676 persons have been self-quarantined in 13,911 homes.

The President emphasized the need to strictly monitor the persons who are under quarantine once the curfew has been lifted, the PMD said.

The President issued these instructions during the daily meeting with the members of the Presidential Task Force on COVID–19 Prevention this morning (05).

He also stated that if infections are detected from society, special attention should be directed towards the contacts of those patients and the respective areas while he also instructed to maintain isolated areas if the need arises.

The PMD reports that the need to direct special attention to estate houses and flats was extensively discussed.

It weas recently decided to restrict economic centers to only wholesale trade while the President stated that trade should be carried out with due diligence while following health guidelines and continuously carrying out PCR tests.

“Lorries travelling between districts transporting stocks of vegetables, fruits and other essentials do not require curfew passes.”

Meanwhile all necessary steps have been taken to continue operations within the Katunayake investment zone, the PMD said.

The President also instructed to continuously carry out random PCR testing associated with the trade zone, with the assistance of private hospitals and under the supervision of the Health Ministry and the Sri Lanka Navy.
