Sri Lanka’s confirmed Covid-19 cases cross 13,000 mark

Total Covid-19 cases confirmed in Sri Lanka went past the grim milestone of 13,000 today (07) as 257 more persons were tested positive for the virus.

According to the Department of Government Information, all the fresh cases have been identified as close contacts of the earlier patients from the Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda cluster which has registered a record total of 9,749 cases since the beginning of October.

Health Ministry’s data revealed that Sri Lanka has confirmed 13,227 novel coronavirus infections to date.

Epidemiology Unit says 5,474 active cases continue to receive treatment at selected hospitals across the country.

Sri Lanka’s Covid-19 recoveries total meanwhile reached 7,723 earlier today, after 237 patients were discharged from hospitals as they have returned to health.

The country has also witnessed 30 deaths from the virus.

Sri Lanka witnessed the highest daily count of Covid-19 cases on the 23rd of October with a record total of 866 fresh positive cases. The second-highest was recorded on the 6th of October with 739 infections.
