Reopening of schools on the previously scheduled date will be decided with the consultation of health experts, said the Minister of Education, Prof. G. L. Peiris.

The third term for schools was set to commence on November 23 after it was postponed by 2 weeks from November 09 due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

A decision will be made taking into account both the health safety and the future of the children, Prof. Peiris said, joining a press conference held in Colombo today (16).

He said: “However, that decision will be based on the advice of health experts. Also, the opinion of principals and teachers are also very important in making this decision. The decision to start the third term of schools will be made after studying all these matters in depth.”
