Dr Jasinghe set to return to Covid-19 front

Former Director-General of Health Services Dr Anil Jasinghe will be attending the meetings on Covid-19 mitigation in the future, says Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi.

She made this remark responding to a question posed by SJB MP Hesha Withanage during the parliamentary session earlier today.

He raised concerns over the absence of Dr Jasinghe in the Covid-19 Task Force and the rumours on Dr Jayaruwan Bandara being asked to step down as the spokesperson of the Health Ministry.

In response, Minister Wanniarachchi said Dr Jasinghe was promoted as the Secretary to the Ministry of Environment.

Speaking on the rumours regarding Dr Jayaruwan Bandara’s alleged ‘removal’ from the post, the minister said she had to make the necessary arrangements to appoint a new Director-General of Health Services following the position left vacant by Dr Jasinghe’s promotion.

Dr Jayaruwan Bandara was accordingly appointed as the spokesperson of the Health Ministry on a temporary basis until the appointment of a new Director-General of Health Services, she added.

He stepped down from the post voluntarily as a new Director-General of Health Services has been appointed, the minister went on to explain.
