Sri Lanka adds 173 fresh positive cases of Covid-19

Sri Lanka’s Covid-19 figures saw another surge today (29), as 173 more persons were tested positive for the virus.

The Government Information Department stated that all of the newly-identified patients are close contacts of earlier cases linked to the Peliyagoda fish market. 

Following the new development in Covid-19 figures, Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda dual cluster’s infections tally has reached 19,946.

As per Epidemiology Unit data, the total number of Covid-19 infections confirmed in the country to date now stands at 23,484.

Recoveries from the virus meanwhile climbed to 17,002 earlier today, as 346 more patients regained health.

However, 6,373 active cases are still under medical care at selected hospitals and treatment centres located across the island.

Sri Lanka has also witnessed 109 deaths related to Covid-19.
