A female student has drowned while bathing in the Walawe River at Kalthota in Balangoda, stated Police Media Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana.

Reportedly, the 16-year-old student had gone bathing in the river along with 15 other students from a school in Kalthota.

The female teacher who accompanied the students has been arrested over the incident, the police spokesman added.
