Colombo High Court today (March 19) released Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena from all charges in the case filed against him on unlawful acquisition of assets.

The case was called before Colombo High Court Judge Aditya Patabendige this morning.

Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) had filed a case against Minister Abeygunawardena over unlawful acquisition of assets to the tune of Rs.41.2 million while serving as a minister from 2010 to 2014.

When the case was taken up today, the high court judge ordered to release Minister Abeygunawardena as the attorneys representing the Bribery Commission informed that they do not wish to proceed with the legal matter.

During a previous proceeding, President’s Counsel Kalinga Indratissa who appeared on behalf of Minister Abeygunawardena had raised preliminary objections, stating that the written approval of the three commissioners of CIABOC had not been obtained when the case was filed.
