Sri Lanka records 36 new coronavirus deaths

Director-General of Health Services said on Sunday (May 30) that 36 more deaths in Sri Lanka have been attributed to the novel coronavirus infection.

 

The latest fatalities have moved the country’s death toll to 1,441, according to Epidemiology Unit data.

 

Seven of the deaths took place on May 30 and the remaining victims have succumbed to the virus infection between the period of May 02 – May 29, the Department of Government Information stated.

 

Reportedly, 33 of them were over the age of 60.

 

The deceased were identified as residents of Hatton, Kaduruwela, Galle, Horana, Mathugama, Galagedara, Kalutara, Anuradhapura, Hettipola, Baddegama, Udalanda, Veyangoda, Colombo 06. Jaffna, Kandy, Gonamulla, Rajagiriya, Maggona, Girandurukotte, Badulla, Kattuwa, Kandy, Battaramulla, Galenbindunuwewa, Maradankadawala, Balangoda, Ratnapura, Kahawatta, Watapola and Kuruwita areas.

 

COVID pneumonia was recorded as the cause of death of majority of the victims.
