Parliament has been adjourned until May 17 (Tuesday) by Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, following heating arguments in the House.

Members of Parliament representing the ‘Samagi Jana Balawegaya’ had raised objections to the dispersing of protesters near the parliament entry road, using tear gas and water cannons.

Earlier, the parliament session had been adjourned for 10 minutes following heated arguments over the police using tear gas on protesters near Diyatha Uyana, Ada Derana Reporter said.

Police had used tear gas and water cannons to disperse protesters near the entry road to parliament at Polduwa Junction in Battaramulla, a short while ago.

The protest organised by university students, demanding the resignation of the President and the entire government, has been continuing since yesterday.

Meanwhile when the parliamentary session was adjourned for 10 minutes today, SJB parliamentarians had visited the Speaker’s Chamber and requested for a date to table the no-confidence motion against the government.
