Limited number of trains in operation today

Sri Lanka Railways says multiple train journeys scheduled for today (July 06) were cancelled as the employees have not reported for duty.

According to the railway department, only 22 office trains out of 48 are in operation today.

Limited train services are offered today as the railway employees are carrying on their trade union action which was initiated yesterday (July 05), Superintendent of Railways Gamini Seneviratne said speaking on the matter.

According to him, only 07 trains are up and running on the Coastal Line, 03 from Kandy on the Main Line and 04 on the Puttalam Line.

However, the Locomotive Engine Operators’ Union leader says the strike action scheduled to commence from midnight yesterday is called off.
