MP Kajendren and 17 others granted bail

MP Selvarajah Kajendren and 17 others who were arrested yesterday for entering a high-security zone in Jaffna have been released on bail last night (Feb. 11), the police said.

The Ahila Ilankai Thamil Congress (AITC) parliamentarian and others had been taken into custody while engaging in a protest in violation of a court order, during the National Independence Day celebrations held in Jaffna yesterday, under the patronage of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, according to Jaffna Police.

Jaffna Police said that the 18 arrested individuals were released under surety bail of Rs. 300,000 each, after being produced before the Acting Magistrate of Jaffna last night.

The group including the MP had staged the protest demanding justice for the Tamil people and solutions for their issues.
