Will not let students to be ‘held hostage’ - President

President Ranil Wickremesinghe says he is hopeful that the issues in the education sector can be expeditiously resolved through discussions.
However, if the discussions fail, necessary measures will be taken to declare the education sector an essential service, the Head of State noted addressing an event today.
A national ceremony was organized at Sri Sangamiththa Balika Vidyalaya in Colombo this morning (March 23) to distribute free textbooks and uniform materials to schoolchildren.
Speaking further, the President assured that he would not let any group to hold schoolchildren hostage for their own benefit.
