2025 O/L Exam: 11,790 students secure 9 A’s and 225,748 qualify for A/Ls

The Commissioner General of Examinations A. K. S. Indika Kumari Liyanage announced that a total of 11,790 candidates have obtained ‘A’ passes for all subjects in the 2025 G.C.E. Ordinary Level (O/L) Examination.

 

She made these remarks during a media briefing held at the Department of Examinations, following the release of the 2025 O/L exam results last night.

 

Accordingly, a total of 225,748 students, representing 73.16% of the candidates, have qualified for the G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) exam, while 7,419 candidates (2.36%) have failed all subjects, she said.

 

The Commissioner General further noted that the number of candidates who obtained ‘A’ passes in all subjects stands at 11,790.

 

She also highlighted an improvement in subject performance compared to last year, stating that the pass rate in Science has increased to 70.1% from 69.07%, while in Mathematics it has risen to 72.03% from 71.06%.

 

Meanwhile, she also announced that online applications for re-scrutiny of answer scripts will be accepted from 25 June to 08 July 2026.

 

Meanwhile, the Commissioner General stated that arrangements have been made to hold the 2026 G.C.E. O/L Examination from December 08 to 17 this year. 

 

She further noted that applications for the examination will be called in the first week of July.
