President departs for India for first overseas visit

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has left for India for a two-day official visit this afternoon (28).

Ada Derana reporter said the President departed from the passenger terminal of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).

This is the first official overseas visit of Gotabaya Rajapaksa after he took office as the new President of Sri Lanka.

President Rajapaksa had accepted the invitation extended by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit the neighboring country following his presidential election victory.

President is set to meet his Indian counterpart Ram Nath Kovind and PM Modi for bilateral discussions.

Presidential Secretary P.B. Jayasundara Secretary to Foreign Ministry Ravinatha Aryasinha, Secretary to the Treasury S.R. Attygalle and Advisor to President Lalith Weeratunga as well as the President’s personal secretary Sugeeshwara Bandara have accompany President Gotabaya Rajapaksa during this visit.
