The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), the electricity sector regulator, has asked the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to submit a report on the interruption of electricity supply that occurred on Monday (Feb 03) without the prior approval of the Commission.

Issuing a press release yesterday (04), the PUCSL said  this action was taken following inquires and complaints from consumers received in the areas of Wattala, Ja-Ela, Kandana, Kelaniya, Maharagama, Boralasgamuwa, Nugegoda, Mirihana and Hikkaduwa, complaining that there were sudden power failures for a duration of two or two and half hours.

The CEB must obtain the prior approval of the PUCSL for every scheduled interruption of electricity supply as per section 10 of the Condition 30 of the Electricity Transmission and Bulk Supply License issued by the PUCSL other than the interruptions necessary due to maintenance which CEB gives prior notice to the public, its statement read further.
