The Chairman of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE), MP Sunil Handunnetti has stated that SriLankan Airlines will be summoned before the Committee on the 19th of this month in order to discuss the contemporary issue with regard to the Airbus deal.

In addition, the Foreign Employment Bureau is scheduled to be summoned before the COPE on the 18th and Sri Lanka Cricket is scheduled to be summoned on the 20th, says the Department of Communication of the Parliament. The Foreign Employment Bureau and Sri Lanka Cricket were proposed to be called for at the conclusion of the parliamentary session, it said further.

The Committee’s chairman has noted that although the officials of SriLankan Airlines have submitted a request in writing to provide them with more time to further study the context regarding the matter of concern as they are newly appointed officials, the COPE members had rejected the request asking them to present themselves on the 19th.

Since there has been much talk about the Airbus deal which was previously discussed at the COPE, it has been thus decided to call for the SriLankan Airlines to appear before the COPE in order to discuss the matters relating to the risen concern. He further stated that two reports pertaining to this Airbus deal have been presented to the parliament by the COPE.
