Special unit to probe complaints in tourism, aviation, investment promotion

A special investigation unit will be established to investigate complaints pertaining to the institutions belonging to the Ministry of Industrial Export and Investment Promotion, Tourism and Civil Aviation.

Minister Prasanna Ranatunga directed the Secretary of the Ministry to take prompt action on the matter.

Currently, eight institutions are under the Ministry of Industrial Export and Investment Promotion, Tourism and Civil Aviation.

Accordingly, the Airports and Aviation Services, SriLankan Airlines, Civil Aviation Authority, Tourism Development Authority, Tourism Promotion Bureau, Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism & Hotel Management and Sri Lanka Convention Bureau, and the Export Development Board are under the Ministry.

Minister Ranatunga points out that he has received several complaints on public distress in the activities and affairs of these institutions.

The unit will be tasked with investigating complaints related to issues of passengers at airports, complaints of harassment by tourists and issues faced by passengers of SriLankan Airlines, issues of investors and complaints regarding issues at free trade zones.
