‘Extreme Caution’ heat advisory for parts of the country

The heat index is expected to increase up to ‘Extreme Caution’ level (32°C-41°C) in parts of the country, the Department of Meteorology warned today (03).

People residing in North-Western, Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern Provinces and in Mannar and Monaragala Districts are urged to be vigilant in this regard.

The advisory issued by the Meteorology Department mentioned that this warning is in effect until tomorrow (04).

The public is advised to limit strenuous outdoor activities and stay hydrated in order to avoid heat cramps and heat exhaustion caused extreme heat.

Heat Index Forecast is calculated by using relative humidity and maximum temperature and this is the condition that is felt on human body.
