3,888 ecstasy pills seized at Central Mail Exchange

A stock of narcotic pills worth over 13.5 million has been seized by officers of the Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) at the Central Mail Exchange in Colombo today (11).

PNB officers have recovered 3,888 pills of Ecstasy (Methylenedioxymethamphetamine/MDMA) from a suspicious parcel at the Central Mail Exchange.

The stock of pills had arrived from Belgium while the parcel had been sent to an address in Maradana, Colombo.

However, as no individual had come forward to claim the parcel for around 5 months, customs officers had grown suspicious and investigation to uncover that the address on the parcel was fake.

The parcel was opened today and 3,888 pills of ecstasy weighing around 01 kg and 485 g were found inside.

Reportedly, the recovered Ecstasy pills are estimated to be worth around Rs 13.59 million.

Sri Lanka Customs and the PNB are conducting further investigations.
