Lasith Malinga picked up a hat-trick for Sri Lanka in their second Twenty20 International against Bangladesh on Thursday as the visitors set a target of 177 for the Lions.

It happened in the penultimate over of the Banagladesh innings, when the 33-year-old removed Mushfiqur Rahim, Mashrafe Mortaza and Mehedi Hasan Miraz off successive deliveries.

Electing to bat first, the visitors post a good total of 176/9 in their allotted 20 overs despite the late slump at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.

Malinga’s figures read 4-0-34-3. And the hat-trick was his fourth hat-trick in international cricket.

Malinga thus joined a select group of five bowlers to have hat-tricks in T20Is. Others are Brett Lee, Jacob Oram, Tim Southee and Thisara Perera.

He is scheduled to join Mumbai Indians on Friday for the 2017 edition of Indian Premier League.
