Sri Lanka wins big at South Asian International Karate Championship

  Representatives from Sri Lanka outshone their opposition at the South Asian International karate Championship held on November 5, 2017 by winning 249 medals at the grand event beating out India (36) and Nepal (11). 

The Sri Lankan contingent won 84 Gold, 78 Silver and 87 Bronze medals amassing an overall tally of 249. 

The event that was organized by the Japan Karate Do Federation WADO KAI Sri Lanka Branch under the guidance of Sensei Jayasiri Perera saw representatives from India and Nepal join a vast Sri Lankan contingent. 

S. Thomas’ College (Mt. Lavinia) dojo instructed by sensei took home a total of 23 medals including 5 gold, 10 silver and 8 bronze medals.  

The Nugegoda dojo instructed by Sensei Jayasiri Perera walked away with 59 medals while Nalanda College Colombo trained by Sensei H.M.Jayantha won 38 medals. 

The event was attended by several representatives from the international community including the President and Chief Representative of JKF Wado Kai Sri Lanka Sensei Jayasiri Perera.
