Sri Lanka ring in changes, bat first

Dinesh Chandimal won the toss and Sri Lanka chose to bat first against Windies in the second match of their three-Test series at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet on Thursday (June 14).

Sri Lanka handed debuts to Mahela Udawatte and Kasun Rajitha while Dhananjaya de Silva and Akila Dananjaya are in for Rangana Herath and Dilruwan Perera.

Angelo Mathews and Lahiru Gamage also miss out due to personal reasons and injury respectively. 

West Indies has named an unchanged squad. 

Shane Dowrich’s defiant first-innings ton and a collective bowling performance helped Windies claim a convincing 226-run victory in the first Test in Port-of-Spain. 

The hosts will aim for a series win here ahead of the final Test in Bridgetown, the first day-night Test in the Caribbean.

Although a slight shower delayed the toss by a little over 15 minutes, the weather is largely expected to be dry in Gros Islet during the course of the Test. The track is expected to be good for batsmen early on but is likely to offer something to the spinners as well.
