Sri Lanka scored 299 for 8 wickets in 50 overs at the 5th ODI against South Africa.
Mathews remains unbeaten on 97 as Sri Lanka lose two wickets in the final over, including a run out on the last ball of the innings.
The Sri Lankan captain played the anchor’s role here and has taken his team to a total of respectability. He was helped by Dickwella (43), Mendis (38) and de Silva (30). There were four partnerships of 50 or more in the innings as a game of cat and mouse continued throughout the innings with South Africa picking up a wicket every time there was a 50-run partnership.
Mulder and Phehlukwayo picked up two wickets each and Rabada, Dala and Maharaj returned with a wicket against each of their names. South Africa need 300 runs to win the final ODI and they will have to get them under lights.
